Have you ever wanted to see a forever mustache shaved? Since serving with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for more than 30 years, Colonel James Bradford, who heads the Investigative Services Division, has only shaved his mustache one time. On Wednesday, May 8, he is willing to part with his facial hair for charity.
For the last month, members of the Sheriff's Office and the public have been encouraged to donate money to the Lynn Sowers Memorial Foundation as motivation for Colonel Bradford to shave. The foundation was created in memory of Deputy Lynn Sowers following her tragic death in 1995. Her fellow employees took up a collection to be given to her family. It was the wish of Deputy Sowers' family that the money raised be given instead to someone in need within the Sheriff's Office family.
Since the start of April, more than $2,000 has been collected for the "Cash for the Stache" fundraiser, which ends at 2 p.m. Wednesday, when Col. Bradford will finally shave his mustache in the conference room of the Homeland security Division located at 2224 Falkenburg Road in Tampa.
