In the wake of Hurricane Dorian, Sheriff Chad Chronister is hosting a blood drive to help replenish supplies at donations sites across the region.
Hurricane Dorian forced the closure of blood donations centers and the cancellation of blood drives throughout Florida and all along the east coast of the United States for nearly a week, causing a decrease in blood donations.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is partnering with OneBlood to host a blood drive dubbed "Operation Dorian Donations" on Tuesday, September 10
. The blood drive is taking place in Ybor City in front of the HCSO Freddie Solomon Annex Building, 1900 E. 9th Avenue in Tampa.
Donations of all blood types are being accepted. Donors can skip the line and reserve a donation time by visiting https://www.oneblood.org/donate-now/donation-centers-list-select-time.stml?driveID=878293
"After a major hurricane, we all think about donating things like water and food to people affected, but donating blood is just as important," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Donating is very simple. By just sitting down and getting your blood drawn, you can save several lives in a matter of minutes."
The Operation Dorian Donations blood drive is happening from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A flyer for the event is attached.
